Quick Thoughts
It’s been a minute… I apologize for ghosting on my obligations over the last two weeks. It was a bit of a whirlwind for me… I started a new medication that made me pretty nauseous the first few days and then my mom ended up in the ER so I had to get on a last minute flight to Chicago. Thankfully she is doing better now and I’m back in Seattle. Unfortunately, one of her sisters is now in the hospital in Florida and it’s not looking good… All in all, it’s been a pretty stressful few weeks and some of that might effect the publishing schedule both here and The Independent Variable over the next few weeks.
Last Week
Luckily only two new shows debuted last week…
The Horror of Dolores Roach S1 (Amazon)
I loved the Gimlet podcast this is based on. This trailer has a bit of a Dexter meets Weeds vibe going for it. It doesn’t quite look like it has the budget to show they believe in it, but I’m still hopeful they can deliver on the eeriness of the podcast. The whole season dropped last week on Amazon. I still haven’t resubscribed so I’m a bit behind on all things Amazon at this point, but this is getting added to my list to catch at some point this year, but if you like audio fiction, it might be worth just giving the podcast a chance because it is one of the best examples of telling a story through audio.
My Adventures with Superman S1 (Adult Swim / Max)
Been a bit confused for what makes an Adult Swim show lately. Both this and Unicorn: Eternal Warriors seem aimed at younger audiences that aren’t typical of Adult Swim, but maybe I’m missing something. Either way, I’m interested to see what they do with this show since DC animated stuff tends to be pretty high quality.
New Stuff
The Afterparty S2 (Apple) — July 11
Season one was a huge surprise hit for me last year so of course I’m excited to see how they follow it up. Tiffany Hadish is one of the funniest people in Hollywood right now and they pulled out all the stops to fill out this killer cast once again.
Full Circle S1 (Max) — July 13
Steven Soderbergh is back with a mystery action thriller show on Max and an incredible cast. Timothy Olyphant (who also has the return of Justified hitting streams next week), Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, and Dennis Quaid headline this Soderbergh joint with some fun guest appearances too.
Foundation S2 (Apple) — July 13
I still haven’t gotten around to S1, but it’s high on my list as I really enjoyed the first book. I feel like I need to read the second book before diving into the show now, which only means I’ll be even further behind…
What We Do in the Shadows S5 (FX) — July 14
And the fan favorite returns. It’s season five at this point so you are probably either watching or not. This show doesn’t really require you to watch previous seasons so if you haven’t seen anything, I encourage you to just jump in and give it a go.

Lastly
That’s it for today. I know I’m behind on publishing the July nonsense. It’s been basically wrapped for a few weeks now, but I’ve been too lazy to put the finishing touches on it so I’ll hopefully get around to that shortly and shoot that out. It’ll be free for all since it’s so late…
As always, stay sane.
