All the TV That’s Fit to Stream
Welcome back to streaming variability, a newsletter all about tv and what’s worth watching written by some random idiot on the internet!
Programming Note: we won’t be releasing sequential variants as its own newsletter anymore. 3/week feels like a lot… Instead, it will become part of the news on Saturday’s going forward along with new additions, sonic vibrations (music) and silver-screen visions (movies). streaming variability will continue to be it’s own thing for now.
Quick Thoughts
Last week was kind of hectic with some in-laws in town so i didn’t get as much TV watching in as I would have hoped and I also dropped the ball on publishing the news, which I had a pretty killer design for so you’ll find that at the bottom of this issue along with a pretty great playlist.
I also completely dropped the ball on the return of Awkwafina is Nora From Queens, which kicked off it’s third season last week. I enjoyed the first episode as I almost always do with these types of 30min comedies.
Both Lucky Hank and Rabbit Hole wrap up their first seasons this Sunday. I’m up-to-date on Lucky Hank and go back and fourth on if it’s actually good or not… It’s different, low-stakes, not super funny or super dramatic and enthralling. It feels a little broadcast-y, but not necessarily in a bad way..? I’m way behind on Rabbit Hole, but really dug the premise of the premier—it’s just one of those shows that requires a lot to sit down and watch…
Pretty exciting slate of new shows kicking off this week so let’s get right into it.
New Stuff
White House Plumbers (HBO)
HBO’s new Monday show to replace Perry Mason. It’s Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux in a five episode HBO Limited Series about Watergate. Easy show to add to the schedule.
Silo (Apple)
I meant to finish Wool, the book this is based on, but have been a bit distracted as of late. Either way, this has the makings of being a really fun show. Think Snowpiercer with less classism. It could also drop with a thud like Foundation, which I also read the book, but never actually tried the Apple show…
Bupkis (Peacock)
Full season of Pete Davidson’s 30min comedy drops on Peacock this week and I’m actually really excited for it. He is basing it off of his real life persona, name and everything, unlike most of the other similar shows a la Better Things, Louie, Master of None, Atlanta, etc. so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (Adult Swim)
New animated show from the legend Genndy Tartakovksy (Samurai Jack, Primal) for adult swim. If I would have known about this earlier it would have easily made my most anticipated list.
The Other Two S3 (HBO)
The return of The Other Two is something that is so nice to have, like a warm blanket. It’s reminiscent of old 30min comedies that are just a joy to throw on at anytime, with an extremely high jokes per second ratio, where you could easily binge through an entire season in a day and still have time to do something else—although we only get two episodes this week (weekly thereafter)—but if you haven’t seen it, it’s such an easy show to catch up on.
