All the TV Thatās Fit to Stream
Welcome back to streaming variability, a newsletter all about tv and whatās worth watching written by some random idiot on the internet!
Quick Thoughts
Lighter week of new releases this week, but that doesnāt take away from the jam-packed schedule we have going on, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with everything, even as someone who writes a newsletter dedicated to it.
Iām a couple episodes behind on Mrs. Davis and Love & Death, plus I still havenāt checked out the first episode of Silo, which is probably for the best since Iām only halfway through the first bookā¦ The NBA Playoffs really isnāt helping thingsā¦ But Iām planning to rectify all of my tardiness this week.
In my opinion, the multiple episode or full season drops only make it harder to keep up with things as more and more tv gets released. Maybe itāll be nice to have things slow down a bitā¦
Over at Too Much TV Rick mentioned āmaybe binge-releasing insāt such a bad idea,ā and itās safe to say I disagree. He noted how itās easy to forget all the shows happening at once unless you are a super fan (thatās what Iām here for!) But if these shows were all released in their entireties at once, I tend to believe theyād be even more lost in the shuffle with full seasons coming and going. Most things from Netflix tend to pass me by and once we are away from launch week, unless someone raves about it, my chances of going back are slim to none. With the weekly release, at least I know what comes out when and can follow the schedule accordingly.
However, it feels like with each passing day, I become more and more in the minority, holding tight to my opinion and my apparently antiquated way of watching, as everyone around me seems to prefer to binge-watch their tv.
New Stuff
Class of ā09 (FX/Hulu)
This looks a lot more wild than I originally expected after seeing some stills and thinking itās just a moody ācop schoolā show. Definitely some twists and turns coming with this one. FX plus Kata Mara plus Brian Tyree Henry is a recipe for success all by itself too.
The Great S3 (Hulu)
Itās back! If you arenāt already a fan of The Great, itās 100% worth watching. Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult are fantastic in it. Happy to see it return for a third season even if the entire season has to drop all at once Friday.
The Muppets Mayhem (Disney)
I canāt help but want good things in the world of The Muppets. Will this be thatā¦ probably notā¦ but itās still worth a shot with a full season drop on Wednesday.
City on Fire (Apple)
Had this on my list, but now Iām not so sure itāll be worth watchingā¦ seeing the EPs worked on Gossip Girl and The OC, shouldāve given me all I needed to know. Basically Gossip Girl meets The Night Ofā¦
Black Knight (Netflix)
A big budget, dystopian, action thriller series from South Korea coming to Netflix from Ui Seok Cho who appears to have spent most of their career working in animation as a storyboard artist and writer so far. Count me in for a couple episodes, at the least.
