Greetings and Salutations!
Back when I was pondering my glorious media empire (which never started due to lack of will, audience, motivation, and just pure laziness among thousands of other reasons) one of my ideas was to build out a calendar of upcoming media, focused on only the *important* and *good* stuff which could be made available to premium subscribers. Due to said laziness, that calendar never came to be.
However, over the last few weeks I decided to do something for myself. It started with a couple spaces in Kinopio to write down all of the shows (and movies) I was interested in that would air during the year. I dropped in dates, ordered them, marked the ten I was most looking forward to and then built a little weekly glance for myself to keep track of what was currently airing and what we were currently watching (shown below). This also gave me a place to start ranking shows as I finished them for my annual rankings. It was a nice little system.
But this didn’t feel like it was really enough… So I had to go make an entire Notion database, which has splintered into multiple databases, that, admittedly, has gotten a bit out of control. Dates, networks, media types, people involved, etc. it’s all there. But all you really need to know is there is this nice calendar to see what’s coming out soon.
You’ll notice the calendar goes beyond just TV Shows, but includes Movies, Comics, and World Events. There are even multiple views to see what’s streamable today, a Gantt chart for TV Shows, plus lists broken out by type. It’s quite a lot.
In my ideal world I’d be able to do all of this in one tool, plus build out a wiki of information about the shows, track the episodes I’ve watched, etc. all in one place. I don’t love being in Notion, especially because I can’t have a calendar based on multiple databases (this is a headache for another time though), but it’s doing the trick.
If Roam were to ever build out a calendar similar to their Kanban boards, that could look like the above with each “event” bringing me to the relevant page… oh boy that would be all I needed… plus being able to connect these calendars to an app like Fantastical… Part of me feels like I should’ve just done all of this in a public Google calendar… anywho… I’ve rambled on long enough now. So let’s wrap up with the mixtape.
